A (semi) new love

Not sure if I've mentioned my love of hedgehogs here before. I totally want one, though I'm not sure if the cats would play nicely with him or just play with him like a toy. So for now I'll just enjoy humorous pictures of them on the Internet.
Someday though.... I going to buy one and name him sonic.

Preview....

So I've been slacking here on blogspot because I've been trying to get my official website up and running. My apologies for the lack of postings this month.
For my February foodie penpal swap I sent a package to a girl who is partaking in the paleo (caveman) diet. I decided to try and make her something with a paleo recipe. Once it's posting time I will have a full write up and recipe, but here's a sneak photo of what I made her..... Extra great bit is that she wrote a gust post for my blog explaining more about the paleo diet!

Internet wandering

So I've been wandering aimlessly around the Internet lately to blow off steam. Hre are some of my favorite things I have found.

Some geekery

So I have a build up of funny Internet things so I'll get them out of the way before bed. First up is some awesome geeky furniture items that I would love to get a hold of.

Sci fi speed dating!

I love the show geek love, it's one of my favorites and I was devastated when they didn't renew it on TLC. Lucky for me they have shot more episodes and posted them to the YouTube channel IGN Start and upload a new one every Wednesday. I'm a Facebook fan of theirs and they are running a meme contest to win a ticket to any of the cons that they go to! I had never created a meme before, but I went right to work and came up with the following 3 memes, don't know if I win, but that would be the best thing ever.

Happy valentines day

Well it's a bit early for valentines day but I did find some amusing items in the Internet.

Bill's pizzeria

My dad loves making pizza and for Christmas this year I got him a new pizza stone since his last one broke. The pizza stone always makes the pizza taste better. He likes to get inventive his his pizzas so here are his two latest creations.
One is pulled pork pizza, made with some pulled pork leftover from my party food on Wednesday. Just BBQ sauce, pulled pork, and cheese, god it was great.
The second one was a pita pizza that he made. It was chili on a pita with sharp cheddar cheese instead of pizza cheese. I only tried a little bite since I'm not much for chili, but this was pretty good. The pita was also a healthy alternative to a full blown pizza dough since it has less carbs, not that I would want to give up my carbs, but it was a good twist for the evening.

Pinterest caramel

So we all know I'm obsessed with Pinterest, I'm a full blown addict and I've been trying fun recipes and crafts off of there, so here's a new one I decided to try. It's for crockpot caramel, this is something I pride myself on making from scratch every year, but I decided once to try the "easy" way out. It wasn't too bad surprisingly, and came out better than I expected. While it wasn't as good as my salted caramel sauce, it was good to use in a recipe. I ended up layering it into caramel butter bars, recipe to follow as well.
The crockpot caramel was easy to make and anyone with a crockpot can make it. All you have to do is buy some sweetened condensed milk in cans and rip off the labels. Then out them in the crockpot and fill it up with water covering the cans. I also recommend you use a crock pot liner, I had never used one before, but it kept the inside of my crockpot clean and didn't damage it from the junk on the cans.
Then you leave it in the crockpot on low for 8 hours. Once the cooking time is done take them out of the crockpot to cool. After the cans are cooled a bit put them in the fridge to get cold. Since I live in upstate new York where it's freezing in the winter I just brought my cans straight out to the garage to cool and skipped the whole cooling down and putting in the fridge process. I guess there are some benefits to the below zero degree weather we've had lately.
I opened it up and it was pretty good, I found it worked very well in recipes though I didn't like it as much just plain. A least it wasn't too bad, I got to out it on my blog instead of the pinterest fail blog!

Reveal day

div align="center">The Lean Green Bean

Well I'm a couple days late on this months reveal, so sorry, I had it all written yesterday and then it timed out before I got to post it. Let's try for round two!
In January I got an amazing box from Megan over at http://www.irunforwine.net she is my culinary soulmate, we love lots of the same things. I think this definitely qualifies as my best box ever!
On to the good stuff lets talk about what I got. There was a chocolate bar with chili in it, I haven't opened it yet, Megan says its not as spicy as you would think. I'm currently munching on the butter cookies with chocolate, a great breakfast snack if I do say so myself. There was also some seafood sauce, which I'm planning on getting some shrimp for later today for the super bowl. I don't want to watch the game, but I do love commercials, and I want to see if I won the work squares.
She sent me a coupon for free wholly guacamole, which has been on my list of things to try, but can't usually justify making the purchase. That makes this perfect! Also since Megan had recently been to key west and included a box of key lime creme brûlée mix. Some Disney tea, and a little container of fancy spread that I'm trying to find the perfect vehicle for.
Now let's talk about the best part of box, it involves..... You guessed it, bacon! That little tiny bottle is bacon vodka! She told me about it and then transferred some from her large bottle into a small one for me. Very awesome because I haven't been able to find it locally, despite what their website says. Megan mentioned that she likes to put it in bloody Mary's. I don't normally like bloody Mary's, but the bacon vodka might just make them bearable. There was also a little package of bacon salt. I couldn't wait for that, I actually out it on my sandwich that night, I made a chicken and ranch pita sandwich with spinach and then sprinkled just a pink of the bacon salt on the sandwich. It was awesome, a little bit goes a long way.
Ne that you've heard about my goodies, go check out Megan at http://www.irunforwine.net and to see what I sent out to my foodie penpal for the month check out http://healthygirlgamer.com/

This is an awesome program that is fun and easy so I have included some details about the program below and you can click the button at the beginning of this post to sign up with Lindsey over at the lean green bean.

Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

Crafty tats

I love crafting and I love tattoos, so here's a great combination. I don't have any crafty ink myself, but I admire these people, some of these are pretty huge.
